61/365 Dr Suess
I grew up with Dr Seuss books ... perhaps what I didn't realise until I started looking for quotes for todays photo was just how much Dr Suess understood the power of words and knowledge ... how, just by words on a page, you could be transported to wherever in the world you may want to go ... without limit.
The proverb in the cover of this book that I co- edited last year says ' The bird that consumes from the miro tree owns the forest. The bird that consumes knowledge owns the world".
A relevant prompt as I am currently living in country where there is not a big reading culture- primarily because there are very few places to get books. I had a discussion with my boss about the importance of reading and all the places it can take his kids ... Just last week he started a programme of reading to them at night and at the weekends, and getting them to read to each other.

Not being in my home as such, and being with only relatively few of my own possessions, and actively trying not to collect any more (!), it's difficult to find any vintage props handy. This however is reminiscent of a time some decades ago, when our trusty baking powder all came in tins, and not boxes or plastic bags. So it's a little comforting to see the tins again here! Sadly there is no where that recycles here so they are ending up as candle holders on my table until I can figure out how to upcycle them on to someone else!

Heading out to a new country you have never been before, where you know no-one, is at first daunting, especially so for an introverted soul such as myself. You leave behind friends and family. But you are driven by a desire to experience a life unlike one you have ever known; to see how others live in this world of ours where we are all connected in some way; and where in some small way, probably not in ways you originally thought, your presence makes a tiny positive difference. That is a long winded way of saying here are the footprints of those I left behind and those I have with me here ... bright, colourful and always present.
